What hardware am I using? My work computer is a Dell Latitude E6500; Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs of RAM, a 350 GB HDD and onboard integrated GPU. It's a terrible machine. The bezel of the monitor keeps breaking off, even after three replacements. The laptop itself is rather heavy, and has absolutely no aesthetic value. For the moment, until I return to Pune and revive an old machine, this laptop is my homebox too. My smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy Wave (GT-15801). And what software? I dual-boot the Dell between Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.01. The Win7 partition serves as my game center; I always have a game or two installed for the weekends. While Ubuntu is not my first choice of distro, it makes working with the others at work a lot more uniform; we face the same problems, need the same solution, etc.... For development, I switch between RubyMine and vim. Firefox remains my browser of choice, and the Gnome Terminal a reluctant one. I've also found the sticky notes application extremely useful. Regarding my Samsung, while I remain ambivalent about how good or bad Android is, the Google integration is what renders the phone useful to me. I no longer have to worry about having to add all my contacts again the next time I buy a new handset; I just log in to Google, and I am ready to go. What would be my dream setup? |
